Let me tell you a little bit about them.
The HJC RPHA-10 is part of the new RPHA family of helmets from HJC and the successor to the RPS-10. This is a very lightweight helmet that is race-bred, sport-driven, and track-oriented. Designed for the track but just as comfortable on the road, the HJC RPHA-10 matte black helmet is an intermediate to a neutral oval with an improved chin vent and an overall increased airflow over the RPS-10. The HJC RPHA-10 features the new RPS-20 shield and has pinlock posts and inserts as well as a quick removal system. The HJC RPHA-10 has a lining that is both anti-microbial and anti-bacterial and is fully removable. This HJC RPHA-10 matte black helmet really has it all.

Super Storm Leon is over!!!

That's right, Super Storm Leon is over!!!  We think we will be shipping today.  Why is it that we only think?  Well, we are not 100% sure that the mail or UPS is running.

We drove in and the roads seemed OK.  I attached some pictures so our customers can laugh about 3 inches of snow in the South.

Jorge Lorenzo draws attention wherever he goes; that is just a fact of life for the defending MotoGP World Champion. Earlier this season, Jorge and HJC Helmets found themselves with even more eyes on them than normal.

IHH: Yes, but shipping time and cost depends on the shipping method you choose. UPS will be faster and more expensive. USPS will be cheaper and slower. You can also choose first class or priority and so on. Oh, you also have Canadian customs to deal with and who knows if they will look at it.

NHTSA cracks down on counterfeit motorcycle helmet labels

In an effort to reduce the number of motorcyclist deaths and injuries attributed to riders using helmets that don't meet federal safety standards, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has revised its helmet labeling requirements.

Effective immediately, the move is aimed at blunting a recent rise in the popularity of so-called novelty helmets--those caps that look more like a soup bowl rather than a traditional helmet. Such novelty helmets do not meet federal safety requirements and are often worn so the rider appears to be conforming to local helmet laws.

Novelty helmets often bear labels similar to those formerly used by the Department of Transportation to identify helmets in compliance with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 218. FMVSS 218 includes tests for impact absorption, penetration resistance, and strap strength. The old stickers were deemed too simple to duplicate, and counterfeits have been widely available. Some riders buy a small, fashionable helmet for well under $100, such as those modeled after military helmets, and affix their own counterfeit sticker. The government has found that helmets evaluated with phony stickers failed all or most of their safety tests.

To reduce counterfeiting and make law enforcement easier, new stickers will include the wording "DOT FMVSS No. 218 Certified," along with the manufacturer name and helmet model.

A NHTSA study found that motorcycle crash fatalities could be reduced by 37 percent if all riders wore a helmet in compliance with FMVSS 218, but use of approved helmets has been on the decline. NHTSA says 54 percent of road riders wore an approved helmet in 2010, down from 67 percent in 2009. Non-compliant helmet use increased to 14 percent from nine percent in the same period. The remaining riders wore no helmets at all.

ABATE claims motorcycle deaths unaffected by helmet laws

Michigan’s increase in fatalities over the previous year (2011) for the first partial year of “helmet choice” was not directly related to the helmet law legislation which was modified to adult choice (21 years and older) in 2012, according to the Michigan State Police.

More motorcycle riders were killed wearing a motorcycle helmet than those without a motorcycle helmet. The “incapacitating injury” category was 60 percent higher for those wearing a motorcycle helmet.

The number of motorcycle fatalities for the previous five years are 2007, 127 fatalities; 2008, 127; 2009, 105; 2010, 125; 2011, 113; and 2012, 129.

The greatest problem with motorcycle fatalities is that 58 percent of all motorcycle fatalities in 2012 involved riders without a valid motorcycle license. They were riding illegally, and the majority of riders were wearing motorcycle helmets.

This is an all-time high for unlicensed riders with 38 percent of motorcycle fatalities being the low and an average of 40 to 45 percent during the last 15 years. This issue is more critical than helmet law modification.

ABATE (American Bikers Aiming Toward Education) is also working with the secretary of state and the office of highway safety planning to encourage unlicensed riders to obtain an endorsement and rider training.

Motorcycle insurance rates are higher in Michigan due to the Michigan Catastrophic Claims Fund Association (MCCA). None of the surrounding states have a catastrophic fund even though all of these states have a motorcycle helmet law similar to Michigan’s, which is the most strict.

The rates have been higher than surrounding states since the inception of MCCA in the late 70s and not simply since the modification of the Michigan motorcycle helmet law. The average payment into the fund is around $200 for all vehicles, including motorcycles. Motorcyclists can only collect from MCCA if hit by another motor vehicle, specifically a car, truck or bus.

Motorcyclists that run off the road, hit a deer or another motorcycle cannot collect from the fund even though they pay the full amount into the fund. There is no comparison of insurance rates with neighboring states as long as Michigan has no-fault insurance and a catastrophic fund.

Weather and the amount of riding days and conditions are all factors in Michigan motorcycling every year and 2012 was the best and longest riding season on record. Only 54 of the 129 motorcycle fatalities in 2012 were legally endorsed to ride a motorcycle, according to data from the Michigan State Police Office of Highway Safety Planning (OHSP).

ABATE of Michigan supports public and private rider education. A current list of motorcycle rider education classes can be found at the Michigan secretary of state web site. ABATE of Michigan has worked with public schools and private driving instructors to teach more than 80,000 new drivers about motorcycle awareness using resources donated by ABATE members.

ABATE of Michigan is a nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving the overall rights and promoting the safe operating practices of Michigan motorcyclists.

Motorcycle helmet impact zones

Facts Wearing the proper motorcycle helmet saves lives and reduces concussions and other head injuries.

In 2008, 1,829 motorcyclists nationwide were saved by wearing their helmets.

Motorcycle helmets are estimated to be 37% effective in preventing fatal injuries to motorcycle riders and 42% effective for passengers.

Helmets are 67% effective in preventing brain injuries in crashes; riders without helmets are three times more likely to have a brain injury as a result of a crash than helmeted riders.

Head injury is the leading cause of death in motorcycle crashes.

Motorcycle Helmet use resulted in a savings of approximately $19.5 billion in economic costs from 1984 to 2002. If all motorcyclists had worn helmets during this time period, an additional $14.8 billion would have been saved.

According to NYS Vehicle and Traffic Law, Section 381 ( http://www.safeny.ny.gov/mcyc-vt.htm ), requires helmets to meet federal motor vehicle safety standards, section 571.218. Look for the US DOT sticker on the helmet to identify ones that meet the standard. 'Novelty' helmets do not meet the required standard, and, therefore, do not provide sufficient protection.

Custom Ski Masks

Conversation between Emma Jane and Iron Horse Helmets Emma Jane 1:35pm Jan 5 Hi, I am one of the many loyal supporters of LuckyYogi helmet bows that was appalled to see your site selling what appears to be a knock off of her product. The fact that you have even used her pictures is very disheartening, as I know how much time and effort she puts in to making every single one of her bows. To see them 'stolen' by another website and sold at less than half the price does not do her many years of effort justice at all. She is very upset by this, and it really angers her client base to see her so hurt by such actions... I hope that it has all been some kind of misunderstanding and can be resolved without further action being taken. From what I can see, you have a well respected business and a great client base, so please respect the hard work and creativity of a fellow motorcycle enthusiast... We are a community which faces enough difficulty without exploiting one another. UPS Next Day Air Cut off Time

Motorcycle Helmet Hair

In the category of "what will they think of next" or "wtf" some German has invented motorcycle helmet hair. Basically, the guy (let's call him Klaus) has glued a wig onto a motorcycle helmet and calls it a invention.

We already have motorcycle helmet mohawks, motorcycle helmet covers and motorcycle helmet bows. Let's just hope the boss doesn't start carry motorcycle helmet hair.
