PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — Jamestown police say a Providence officer killed in a weekend motorcycle crash while off duty was not wearing a helmet.

Police say 43-year-old John Reposa Jr. was riding a motorcycle through the intersection of North Road and Westwind Drive when it collided with a car at about 8:30 p.m. Saturday.

Reposa was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the car, 44-year-old Marijke Landon of North Carolina, was not injured.

No charges have been filed, but the accident remains under investigation.

Providence Mayor Angel Taveras remembered the 19-year veteran as an officer with a big personality and a big heart. He has ordered city flags be flown at half-staff to honor Reposa.
